Located throughout the city of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba's 24 academic units offer a wide range of programs including liberal arts and sciences, creative arts, and education, to name a few. 170 different disciplines are offered, leading to a variety of degrees, diplomas and certificates. It is the province’s largest, most comprehensive and only research-intensive post-secondary educational institution. Founded in 1877, it was Western Canada’s first university. In 2005-06, 70 of the U of M’s Bison athletes were named Canadian Interuniversity Sport Academic All-Canadians by earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, an honour awarded to an increasing number of Bison Sports athletes with each passing year.
